For instance, one shows a row of reversible totes turning themselves inside out. In the video above, a finger-operated skateboard glides in, around, over and through Hermes’ product line. The best part? It identifies all the tricks made by the finger at the end of the video! To be honest, I’m getting a bit tired of all these collaborations. It was good business sense (and/or strategy) at the beginning of the recession — like how the power rangers morphed together to create one mighty morphed power ranger — but now it seems saturated and tired. However, a nice and creative move from this is customization. This was often done in the past for charity projects but now it seems purely creative. A great example is menswear designer Katie Eary’s Nike customization. On a pure aesthetic level I think these are pretty darn sweet! Although they’re probably a men’s shoe, ah well. Katie is a great new talent to come from the UK and her menswear is pushing boundaries (to use an over used cliché) but also playful and fun.
One word, well actually two if we’re being all correct here: ZAN ZAN http://www.zanzan.co.uk/ “Why do you like?” you may ask, well I’m going to tell you. Great retrospective designs made from quality, classic materials. For example the new range has a lot of tortoiseshell, which for me is (apart from classic black) the ultimate material for sunglasses. It could be its reference to Jackie Onassis’s style, whom I adore. But I think more specifically it’s this rarity, currently, of women looking like women, not prostitutes, not strippers, and not their polar opposite like lesbians or men! Anyhoo, back to the sunglasses. This range, and brand, definitely has the potential to become a classic staple. There is nothing here that upsets me. See below for examples. This is my favourite image and style. The azure blue against the tortoiseshell, and the pop of the red lips just does it for me. Hope ...
In college I took a cool course in Environmental History and one of the most interesting sections was about the human impact on food-systems and how diets have changed over the centuries. Especially pertinent to today is agribusiness and the environmental impact. The Good Blog has a neat story about meat and people who are changing what and how they eat it. A good read with a nice introduction to some larger topics. By now we all know that eating a lot of meat—especially factory-farmed meat—isn’t very good for the planet. Fortunately for meat eaters, some meats are more sustainable than others. And as it turns out, rabbit is one of the healthiest, leanest, and most environmentally friendly meats you can eat.
