Precinct 5 | Amsterdam

Precinct5 Interior FTW Stock

I first caught the news of this store on Hypebeast and can’t wait for my next trip to the Dam to check it out in person. An extremely impressive space, especially when you consider:

1. It used to be a police station

2. It took less than 5 weeks for completion

3. It uses 4 main materials; Concrete, Glass, Steel and an industrial Wood surrogate

4. And of course the budget was limited

Kuub together with industrial designer Pieter Kool created an interior that reveals and refines the original identity of the police station by transforming it into a raw space for fashion and inspiration.

Opening the space to its bare frame and laying anthracite concrete creates the foundation for a series of black steel framed fixture elements; the ‘KUBE’.

Using a series of ‘KUBE’ elements they were able to maximize the available floor space with minimal fixture elements. The ‘KUBE’ is able to be connected in 3 dimensions and thereby creating each fixture is a matter of form following function. Display Cases, Cash Desk, Hanging Shelving and even the Staircase are created using the ‘KUBE’. This modular fixture element keeps the space flexible and logically kept costs to minimum to meet a limited budget.

The store itself came about through a partnership between DJ MrWix, Patta and MassiveMusic, and is home to both Enplus and Stüssy. This is Stüssy’s first Dutch retail space.

Kuub also has a great series of images here.

Or better yet, head to Amsterdam and see the store for yourself:
