Spending a nice weekend in Amsterdam visiting a friend and guess how lucky I was to turn up in time for a SidLee event at the SidLee Collective here in the DAM. A live graffiti between Amsterdam and Hamburg and in the true spirit of competition each group of artists worked extra hard to take the piss out of the competition.
The Dutchies came out strong poking fun at the German beer, sausage and Lederhosen and poking directly at the ‘Hamburg-ers’ with a conveyor belt loaded with hamburgers! Plus an easy reference to der Untergang; easy wins all around.
The Germans were surprisingly clever pulling together a small package of subversive jokes poking fun at the queen, tall stoned houses on the canals and somehow even referencing new years eve fireworks blowing off kids hands, and a real fun banner saying Don’t drink and draw!
The hometown heroes won the battle but the Hamburg-ers put on a good show and it was a pretty cool event.
Check some of the pics I took last night and further down for the video of the first Secret Wars (yes you can get a McKroket here…not good):
