I have a designer friend living in Munich who designs book covers and some of her stories, especially when being asked to design a cover for a biography of a living person, are just priceless. Tragic accounts of way too tan old men and their arm candy wives coming into a publisher’s office to review layouts where the wife inevitably chooses the option that the designer likes the least.
Which is why I really enjoyed sharing The Book Cover Archive with her. Understanding how the designer has to temper their creativity with the needs of the publisher and then the scope and feel of the book itself is absolutely wild.
The Book Cover Archive is edited and maintained by Ben Pieratt of General Projects and Eric Jacobsen of Whisky Van Gogh Go.
