I once new a girl that swore to me she was going to quit everything and go to Italy to learn to make glass eyes. Maybe that girl is still around somewhere, maybe she will be lucky one day and stand up from behind whatever desk she is sitting at and get on a plane.
Watching this man turn and turn and turn and turn the glass until it is just right, then slowly heat and add color to the glass until it becomes an eye is just beautiful. His art fills a very personal space for everyone, the wearer of the eye and all of us who might one day stare deeply into the eyes of someone we care about and realize that some of the love we see reflecting back at us came from him.
